چکیده

BACKGROUND: HealthCyberMap http://healthcybermap.semanticweb.org aims at mapping parts of health information cyberspace in novel ways to deliver a semantically superior user experience. This is achieved through "intelligent" categorisation and interactive hypermedia visualisation of health resources using metadata, clinical codes and GIS. HealthCyberMap is an ArcView 3.1 project. WebView, the Internet extension to ArcView, publishes HealthCyberMap ArcView Views as Web client-side imagemaps. The basic WebView set-up does not support any GIS database connection, and published Web maps become disconnected from the original project. A dedicated Internet map server would be the best way to serve HealthCyberMap database-driven interactive Web maps, but is an expensive and complex solution to acquire, run and maintain. This paper describes HealthCyberMap simple, low-cost method for "patching" WebView to serve hypermaps with dynamic database drill-down functionality on the Web. RESULTS: The proposed solution is currently used for publishing HealthCyberMap GIS-generated navigational information maps on the Web while maintaining their links with the underlying resource metadata base. CONCLUSION: The authors believe their map serving approach as adopted in HealthCyberMap has been very successful, especially in cases when only map attribute data change without a corresponding effect on map appearance. It should be also possible to use the same solution to publish other interactive GIS-driven maps on the Web, e.g., maps of real world health problems.

PhyloPro2.0: a database for the dynamic exploration of phylogenetically conserved proteins and their domain architectures across the Eukarya

PhyloPro is a database and accompanying web-based application for the construction and exploration of phylogenetic profiles across the Eukarya. In this update article, we present six major new developments in PhyloPro: (i) integration of Pfam-A domain predictions for all proteins; (ii) new summary heatmaps and detailed level views of domain conservation; (iii) an interactive, network-based visu...

Stabilization and Walking Control for a Simple Passive Walker Using Computed Torque Method (RESEARCH NOTE)

Abstract   The simple passive dynamic walker can walk down a shallow downhill slope with no external control or energy input. Nevertheless, the period-one gait stability is only possible over a very narrow range of slopes. Since the passive gaits are extremely sensitive to slope angles, it is important to use a control strategy in order to achieve a wide range of stable walking. The computed to...

On space management in a dynamic edge data cache

Emerging web applications are increasingly serving dynamic content generated by querying back-end database servers. The serving of dynamic content can be scaled by offloading applications and caching data at edge servers. In recent work, we proposed a persistent and self-managing edge-of-network data cache that is dynamically populated based on the application query stream and stored locally in...

A “Real” Drill-Down Java Graph

SAS/GRAPH® software enables you to summarize your data and present a summary using various charting options and view it from different directions. Drill down graphs let you slice and dice ONLY what you see in the main chart. To literally drill into a graph for additional information and charting, further coding is required, but easy to do. The method presented makes a chart vastly more dynamic....

Towards Query Caching in a Web Application Proxy

The bottleneck of Web content delivery is not serving static content but dynamic content which requires data processing. We propose using a database cache to oooad the demand on a database-driven Web service. This paper presents the design of a database cache and preliminary results on the overhead of maintaining such a cache.
